As part of the KEM research program, the overlapping effects of various underground gas extraction and storage measures in the Grijpskerk and Lauwersmeer area (Netherlands) were investigated in relation to the associated deformation processes and their above-ground effects. Analysis of subsidence, seismicity, and leakage indicates only minor and predictable effects. There is no evidence of additional induced seismicity or significant methane leakage. No critical mutual superposition of the effects of the mining projects was identified.

The study, conducted by Q-con, Crux Engineering, Cohere Consult, and TU Delft, was evaluated by the KEM expert panel and found to be clearly structured, scientifically sound, and closely aligned with the project objectives. The study is available on the KEM website ⬈.
